DescriptionThrough a series of interviews with a cross-section of women, this documentary examines the working conditions faced by outworkers and looks at the positive actions which have been taken by the workers themselves and by campaign groups. The outworkers featured in the video all appeared at the risk of losing their jobs. They are representative of thousands of women often working in conditions contrary to health and safety regulations, in isolation, without union protection and without job security and satisfaction. Many of the outworkers are migrant women who already face different levels of racial discrimination. Along with the Leicester Outwork Campaign group, a Migrant Campaign group is discussed in the video, showing the effectiveness of campaign groups at enabling women to meet, discuss common issues and gain support and advice.
