DescriptionIn October 1986, nurses in Australia began a strike which was to last for 50 days. Despite intense indoctrination to be 'good girls', nurses walked out of hospitals, community health centres, intensive care units and labour wards. RUNNING OUT OF PATIENCE documents this historical dispute using footage filmed during the strike, television footage, nurses' training films, and old photographs to explore the stereotypes of silence, devotion and selflessness which are central to the notion of nursing as a calling.
