On 18 April, Onyeka Igwe presents a special programme titled Accidental Aesthetic Tradition, as part of this year’s edition of Open City Documentary Festival, which reflects on the formative influence of late-night television and experimental film culture on her filmmaking language. We’re delighted to include Loss of Heat (d. Noski Deville) as part of the programme, with the filmmaker present for a post-screening Q&A. To book, visit.
“The thought recently crossed my mind: how did my late-night television diet of Eurotrash and experimental short films inserted into general programming produce my filmmaking language? The experience of watching films from the late 90s and 2000s and simultaneously feeling a sense of recognition and wondering if I watched them before triggered this. So, here are some snippets of perhaps my accidental aesthetic tradition.” (Onyeka Igwe)
The programme features:
- Island Race (d. William Raban, 1996)
- Pace (d. Katrina McPherson, 1995)
- Loss of Heat (d. Noski Deville, 1994)
- Hands (d. Adam Roberts, 1995)
