Cine Mujer

Cine-Mujer is a collective of filmmakers whose principal objective is the production and distribution of non-sexist films, audiovisuals and other informative educational materials dealing with conditions and status of women in Columbia and Latin America.

Being aware of the importance of the media in shaping people’s opinions, Cine-Mujer intends to supply an alternative image of women: analysing the obstacles she faces in her efforts to participate fully in the process of development; publicising portraits of women whose achievements have been undervalued; contributing to the process of education of women through films dealing with her. Also offering positive images for women to identify with.

Support groups for women were being organised throughout Latin America but there were few films and tapes that dealt with the experience of latin women. So Cine-Mujer was formed as a response to the necessity for local production of materials about issues affecting women, that could be used by these institutions and groups working with women.
