The Image Is Cracked
Tuesday, October 21, 2025 — 7pm
361 Stagg Street, Suite 407, Brooklyn
This screening night revisits a defining yet often overlooked chapter in British moving image history, in the 1980s, when a new generation of artists turned away from the formalism of the 1970s avant-garde in favour of inexpensive formats like Super-8 and video. Embracing these accessible tools, they confronted social, sexual, and cultural politics while developing new experimental approaches.
Curated by Luke Fowler, the programme presents:
- Blood Ah Go Run, Menelik Shabazz, digital projection, 1981, 20 mins
- Hang on a Minute, Lis Rhodes, 1983, digital projection, 13 mins
- Epiphany, Cerith Wyn Evans, 1984, digital projection, 24 mins
