‘CARNA I/ge ISM’ embodies the collision between the pleasure oriented stylistic idioms of postmodernism and vision as a copulating metaphor.
As culture is more and more becoming a multiplicity of competing signs, tensions between conflicting types of representations point to a crisis within cultural life. As decentred, floating, fragmentary subjects we have become ideal targets for a system that offers endless an succession of positions within the desiring machines. The flow of consumption seems to be an endless and essential point of fascination. Cinematic dissolution and flux are the overwhelming experience of our media-style life. The endless flow of images become like corpses and take on the symbolic meaning of death itself.
‘CARNA I/ge ISM’ functions as an installation where the car-body serves as a metaphor for a decaying body politic, consumed by its own ambition. It constitutes a site for examining the position of the body as central to the reception of social issues and aesthetic strategies.
