Charlottenburg
A journey that never happened, an image that doesn't exist, a pool never swam in, the memory of desire.
‘Charlottenburg’ explores the difficulty in capturing and placing “memory” when the source, a journey to a swimming pool, never took place.
Super 8 footage acts as both structure and reconstruction – offering an alternative reality. This new reality/memory is punctuated by rich and provocative images from a variety of moving and still sources, which chart the search for the perfect representation of a pool never swam in.
A fragmented and imperfect voice-over, in English and German, is interspersed with silence, ordinary sounds and the enigmatic rhythm of a film projector which allude to the implicit randomness of our visual and aural memory.
