Children of Fire
‘Children of Fire’ is a personal view into the lives of the children of the Palestinian uprising. After 14 years, Mai Masri, a Palestinian film-maker returns to Nablus, her hometown under occupation. Her uncle's neighbour has just been shot dead by Israeli soldiers and the whole town is under curfew.
At age five, Fadi is already throwing stones. His whole world is shaped by what he sees around him: soldiers, stones, burning tyres and early death. To Hana, eleven, the Intifida is more than stones. It is a whole new way of life: ‘The Intifada has made people more aware and brought us closer to each other. It has taught us to depend on ourselves.’
The Palestinian uprising has now entered its fourth year. Hundreds of children have been killed, and more than 60,000 injured and maimed. The psychological impact of the prolonged curfews, house demolitions, raids in the middle of the night, expulsion of entire families and repeated closure of schools has been tremendous on the children.
Through intimate portraits, 'Children of Fire' examines this reality through the eyes of the children themselves.
