A mixed media piece which uses mainstream images of “women loving women” to identify the invisibility and myths surrounding lesbians in the age of AIDS. These distorted representations, in combination with condoms as the symbol of safe sex, function as an assault on homosexual women, leaving them unaware of their risk and thus more susceptible to the disease. A lesbian who was exposed to HIV by a female lover explains her status as "other" on health questionnaires, highlighting the underrepresentation of lesbians in AIDS statistics. ‘Condomnation’ demonstrates empowering ways in which lesbians can convert condoms, and images, into healthy tools for survival.
