Deviant Beauty
An androgynous woman's surreal journey through the carnivalesque, that embodies spectatorship, erotica, sexuality, death and decay. It questions our expectation of, and pleasure in, the image against the death and emptiness that lies beneath the alluring surface. The film is structured in four parts. Part One, The Spectacle, in which the protagonist watches the trapeze artists in the theatre/circus. Part Two, The Descent, in which the protagonist descends a spiraling staircase, she meets the menacing gaze of a clown juggling fire-balls. Part Three, The Pit, in which she finds herself in a dark seedy passageway. An unseen door is opened by the clown. Part Four, The Landscape, in which she walks, runs across the landscape, her figure ethereal and ghostly; the clown's laugh echoing around the landscape.
