Faster Princess
Super-8mm film transferred to video, ‘Faster Princess’ is colourful and playful, using a mixture of live action, cut-out and pop-up animation to tell the story of a young woman preparing herself for the ball... a ball with a difference.
A Cinderella fantasy... a piss take, facing your contradictions. Taking out an old dream and putting answers to it. It's more than just what is contained in the film, it's a result of a series of little works about "killing the prince". ‘Faster Princess’ is the space I gave myself to play with and realise a fantasy, but there wasn't a prince around any more. Of course this film could be seen as pure indulgence, even narcissism! The reason I felt strong about making it is because I know I'm not the only woman with this sort of fantasy or experience, they are the foundations of every woman's past, rediscovering them can answer questions. In reclaiming our mythology and redefining it we can have the pleasure of laughing at our contradictions.
