Khush
The Urdu word khush means gay in the sense of ecstatic pleasure. With this in mind, this documentary juxtaposes interviews with Asian and British Asian lesbians and gay men with wonderful clips from Indian films and contemporary scenes from Indian and western culture. Intercut with dramatizations, this collage of images creates a sense of past and present, of struggle and pleasure.
Cultural identity is implicit in the film while issues around homophobia and racism are explored in the affirming and celebratory accounts of sexuality and solidarity by the interviewees.
