Las Nicas
In 1981 and 1982 Carole Isaacs and Julia Lesage visited Nicaragua and filmed in-depth interviews with women in the Managua area. In this tape Nicaraguan women speak about their work, sexual politics, religion, family life, social participation and national defence.
Suggested audiences include women's studies, Latin American studies, social sciences, solidarity groups, community and church screenings.
'Las Nicas’ is about how women survive in the face of overwhelming force and pressures. The tape integrates folk music and murals to show the people's artistic expression of these issues. It provides an alternative vision of history – the history of struggle, of women's oppression.
