A distanced handling of two widespread problems seemingly caused or perpetuated by patriarchal values and capitalism: anorexia nervosa and starvation due to poverty. Surprisingly young parents struggle to explain and come to terms with the painful situation in which they find themselves: the mother understands little about the causes of anorexia; the father presumes people have a free choice. Neither can penetrate a world view fashioned by a comfortable life or the liberal sentiments it engenders.
