Milk and Glass
‘Milk and Glass’ is primarily concerned with exploring where woman is in relation to sexual desire. Links are drawn between the bedroom and the food table. References are made to Kristeva's “abject” and Irigaray's “speculum”.
The relationship between the glass mirror, the paint and the milk is important. The milk represents the pre-symbolic, the liquid and the oral union with the mother. The glass references the intervention of the symbolic, or cultural coding into the body. The interplay of the visual and the oral, the subject and the object separation and fusion play on the problematic of female subjectivity: both inside and outside as subjects of language and subjects of desire.
