Naked Spaces – Living is Round
Women Make Movies
‘Naked Spaces’ is a subjective, poetic documentary. Rather than the depersonalised voice of most ethnographic films it offers anti-anthropological reflection and poetic meditation. The single narrative voice of culture and authority is here replaced by the voices of three women, each representing another way of “documenting”.
A sensuous and philosophical journey, ‘Naked Spaces’ takes us through the daily rhythms, sounds and shapes of village life among the peoples of West Africa. Exquisitely photographed, rich in detail and texture this film is a counter-documentary, throwing into question our formulas for the relationship between fact and truth.
