The incidence of polygamy amongst educated women in Senegal is actually on the increase. More and more women are choosing to become a man's second or third wife. The majority of men choose to have up to four wives.
In this video men and women speak openly about the advantages and disadvantages of polygamy and what it is like to live in a polygamous household in the 1980s. A useful discussion opener on the family which can be programmed with the other tapes commissioned by the UN to commemorate the end of the Decade for Women in 1985.
