She Said
‘She Said’ concentrates on the theme of women and work, exploring and describing the overlap between working and free time, using the formal properties of film to reflect on the subject. It begins with a series of old and contemporary photographs cut to a rhythm which echoes the rhythms of work while a woman's voice reflects on seen and unseen work done by women. lntercut are sequences of live action footage commented by an internal monologue while further sequences of cut-up stills punctuated by a silent black screen serve as reminders of piecework and the labour process.
Feeling strongly that women's work is continuous, I realised that the film work could only be seen after work or in moments of non-work which I hesitate to call leisure. With this in mind I tried to bring this contradiction to the surface within the film itself.
