This stylistic, non-narrative film is a complex, impressionistic work documenting and interpreting a Sri Lankan ritual of spirit possession and cure through the exploration of various bodily states. The film looks at narcissism, masochism and hysteria by staging short vignettes and placing bodies in various evocative positions. ‘A Song of Ceylon’ brings together theatrical traditions from two cultures and mediates these differences through the medium of film.
