A documentary of the struggles in Australia for equal pay for women concentrating on the case put forward by the Australian Council for Trade Unions (ACTU) that traditional women's professions be measured against traditional men's professions to determine their “comparable worth”.

Five women – a unionist, a former suffragette, a nurse, a feminist historian and an employer’s representative – talk about equality for women from their experience and argue for the pivotal notion in this issue; namely whether it is possible to make a qualitative evaluation between “men”s’ and “women”s' jobs. The ACTU put their case to the Australian Conciliation and Arbitration Commission where the righAt to equal pay for equal work was confirmed but the notion of 'comparable worth' was not.
