‘Transeltown’ is a film shifting between black & white and colour about a lost, lonely girl who finds Hell, Purgatory and Paradise in Times Square. A comic tale in three parts, with each introduced by a reading from Dante's ‘Divine Comedy’.
‘Transeltown’ has been called ‘a morbid and strangely tender tale of love in the tradition of David Lynch.’ The serious fun begins when Pootie, the protagonist, stumbles upon a beautiful, comatose, naked blonde – Coitella – in a vast parking lot and drags her home to revive her. Entirely without dialogue, ‘Transeltown’ layers together musical selections and sound effects ranging from Japanese ray guns and Godzilla samplings to Carmen Miranda and Central Asian goat-herding jaw harp.
