Working with footage of wrestlers and eager audiences – by the ringside and in front of their TV sets – the film examines people's responses to images of violence as entertainment.

Questions are raised about the social and sexual role of ritualised male aggression, and connections are made between violence, voyeurism and documentary film-making by concentrating on the “look” of the spectator and using various visual techniques. In so doing ‘Wrestling’ emphasises the properties of film and different ways of looking, challenging notions of objectivity and encouraging an active critical response from the viewer.
